I work near by and I saw the sign that said cheesesteak. I am from the east coast so I let curiosity get the best of me and it was worth it. The bread is delicious, the sandwich is so good. Yes stop by if you get the chance. No it is not open late. And yes it can get busy so there can be a bit of a wait.
Newkirk's is a staple for my lunches! The sandwiches are good enough that I crave them at times. The place is appropriately staffed and the person at the front counter is friendly, prompted, and helpful. The decor is basic, which looks like easy maintenance and low fuss, but you wouldn't come here for the ambiance. The lunch rush can be heavy between 12pm-1pm, so I'd get there a bit before/after or order ahead. I have loved the the buffalo chicken sandwich and the salami sandwich. And, if you need a little pick-me-up after lunch, the coffee is pretty good.
Local sandwich spot serving amazing sandwiches. Not the largest servings you’ll find in the city but well curated choices. Service was a miss though. Would come back!
- cheesesteak: lives up to the hype, must try! perfectly portioned and the ratio of meat to cheese to bread was perfect.
- bacon egg cheese: didn’t like at all. thought it was plain and forgettable
- steak with horseradish: sandwich was good but waaay too much horseradish. i think they messed up the spread that day.
- turkey coleslaw: skip!!! so bad and tasted like store bought coleslaw
Got the cheesesteak. It's not a Philly style cheesesteak nor does it pretend to be. But it hits hardest where it counts! Good meat and white American (my natural preference) coated evenly throughout. Nice French bread roll. Definitely used good ingredients.
Dudes working there are pretty cool. Will go back to try the rest of the menu; especially the fried egg sandos!
Finished with my appts across the street at Zuckerberg General I was crossing Potrero and painted in a window I see CHEESESTEAK SANDWICHES!!! So, great advertising! Drew my attention! I walk in to a very basic, clean and inviting sandwich shop! Inviting for several reasons, plants all along the top window ledge, clean family style high bench table's, a simple and easy to read menu board, two classic vintage pinball machines and a friendly, personable and professional individual ready to take my order and strike up friendly conversations with the different customers. I ordered a classic cheese steak sandwich that was priced fairly, served hot and in a timely manner! This little sandwich shop is a little gem that I highly recommend if on that side of town. They serve breakfast sandwiches, coffee drinks and some special carbonated beverages I wasn't familiar with!
P.S. make sure to bring a couple quarters with you so you can try your pinball wizard skills on one of the vintage pinball machines while waiting for your order!
The owner and staff are very friendly, and this is a nice addition to the neighborhood. Sandwiches are good. However, I'm not into chopped up meats, thus the 3 1/2 stars.. My family loves this place. Because my family is the majority, I would say, give this place a try. They're supposed to have a delish breakfast sandwich, NY style. I am going back to try it. Keep in mind that the prices are at the higher end.
First time coming here and so happy I found it cause it’s now a go to spot!
Great quality of ingredients and such amazing hospitality and service. The young lady who made my coffees too was the BEST! Cute and pretty big inside too!
The salads and sandwiches are all amazing no joke!
As a native New Yorker, Newkirks always makes me feel like I’m having a tiny piece of home. I love their sandwiches, and have so far had their Horse on the Roof and their Pastrami Egg and Cheese. Both were amazing and I’m excited to make this a regular spot. Don’t skimp on the hot sauce.
